Vote in the 2010 mid-term ElectionLetter From Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry, Chair, The Social Action Commission

Four (4) Days to Go Until Election Day!

October 28, 2010

To: Clergy and Lay Leadership

To: Members and families of  The African Methodist Episcopal Church

As you have noticed, The Social Action Commission has kept us reminded that we are counting down to election 2010!  The excitement is building, the anticipation is high!!

The pollsters have already named the “winners”, and some of us have not voted yet.

Some pollsters say as high as 24% of 18-49 year olds, and 14% of over 50 year olds do not plan to vote this November.   I believe that you and I can prove them wrong.  I am certainly reminding my age group that voting is a privilege that we cannot afford to misuse.

To all of my 18-49 year old friends, I encourage you to show the enthusiasm you had in 2008, go to the polls, take some friends with you, take control of your own destiny.  The future depends on your participation in the election process.

Because of Dr. King, Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer,  Emmitt Till,  Rev. Johns, Rev. Brown,  and Rosa Parks, and countless others, you must exercise your citizenship responsibilities at the polls on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2010. This is the legacy they left us.  WE ARE ALL COUNTING ON YOU AND THE (5) OTHER PEOPLE YOU WILL TAKE TO THE POLLS!!!!
