ALLIGATOR PEARS–FRUIT THAT’S GOOD FOR YOUR HEART by Must Love Foods

Okay, so we all know that Alligator pears are good for us and can be used in a number of different dishes.  But do you know what it actually is? It an AVOCADO!  Yes, that’s right – the Avocado is a FRUIT (just like the Tomato). It gets this name due to its skin and it’s shaped like a pear.  Its taste is really mild, but when mixed and matched with other foods, it can be a whole new food. So why is it so good for your heart? Here are a few reasons:

·         Potassium:  Avocados have more potassium than BANANAS!! And that helps lower you blood pressure which lowers your risk for stroke and heart attacks.

·         Fiber: Both soluble and insoluble is found in avocados.  They help lower cholesterol and fill you up so you eat less.

·         Vitamins: It’s full of Folate, Vitamin C and E.  The C and E are great antioxidants and lower the “bad” cholesterol (LDL). Folate blocks production of homocysteine, which increases risk for heart disease.

·         Good Fat: Unsaturated fats are better for you than saturated and trans fats. Avocados are mono-unsaturated. They help lower the bad and increase the good cholesterol. Guacamole here we come!!

So everything in moderation, but don’t shy away from this tasty fruit, with good fat, and that’s fun to eat.

EAT WHAT YOU LOVE, LOVE WHAT YOU EAT!!
